That Time Dr. Phil Invited The Creator of BumFights On, Who Was Dressed Like Dr. Phil

Published:

On December 12, 2006, the Dr. Phil show took a bizarre turn when they invited Ty Beeson, the controversial creator of the Bumfights video series, as a guest. But Beeson arrived in full mockery of the talk show host himself, complete with a shaved head and a suit to mirror McGraw’s look. After showing some Bumfights clips to the audience, McGraw abruptly refused to interview Beeson, with security swiftly escorting him offstage. During his brief appearance, Beeson accused McGraw of hypocrisy, claiming that while Dr. Phil condemned the exploitation in Bumfights, McGraw’s show profited off the struggles of vulnerable individuals.

After Dr. Phil plays the introduction to who his guest is, he says, “Stop the tape. I don’t want to talk to you. That’s despicable. I don’t want to talk to you. You can walk.” After a brief altercation, and Beeson is removed, he addresses the audience, saying, “Sorry, but I just watched that footage, and that is absolutely despicable, and I refuse to publicize that.” The audience applauds him, but nearly any sane person watching this has pointed out, he did publicize it. He waited until after he showed what was essentially a promo clip for a horrible video series that pays homeless people to hurt themselves and each other or do gross things for money.
