I’m pretty sure that Caddyshack (1980) is my all-time most-watched and most-quoted movie. As a kid it was my first introduction to Rodney Dangerfield, Chevy Chase, and Bill Murray. In fact, this was Rodney Dangerfield’s introduction to acting. The first scene he ever shot was the hat scene, and it’s said that he didn’t respond to “Action” and asked Harold Ramis, “You mean do my bit?”
This was also the first time Chevy Chase and Bill Murray were in a room together after they had a blowout on the set of SNL. The scene where Chevy Chase is night-putting and has to play through Bill Murray’s shed that he sleeps in was written just to get the two guys to speak to each other.
It’s silly. It’s raunchy. It’s perfect.
